Captain Jason Jones was born and raised in Shelby County, Alabama. He moved to Panama City Beach with his family in 1988 and graduated from Bay High School in 1992. He attended Gulf Coast State College and earned Certificates of Completion in Law Enforcement Standards and Correctional Officer Standards in 1995. While attending school, he began working in the Auxiliary/Reserve Program with the Panama City Beach Police Department. He was hired as a sworn officer with the Uniformed Patrol Division in 1997, where he ascended through the ranks to Corporal and then Sergeant. He was an Assistant Watch Commander while on patrol, and in 2009, he entered the Criminal Investigation Division working with felony crimes. He was promoted to Lieutenant while in this division and served as the Assistant Division Commander. In May 2019, he was promoted to Captain of the Criminal Investigative Division.
Captain Jones has experience and training with many areas of law enforcement including Field Training Officer, Certified Firearms Instructor, Homicide and Violent Crimes Investigation, Forensic Pathology for Investigators, Officer Discipline, Less than Lethal Instructor and was a member of Special Weapon and Tactics.
