FDOT to host meeting on Highway 388
The Florida Department of Transportation has announced it will host a public information meeting on Tuesday, July 24 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on enhancements to State Road 388 east of the Northwest Florida Municipal Airport. The meeting place is Gulf Coast State College's Public Safety EOC Building, Room 101, 700 Highway 2300 in Southport.
Highway 388 is a popular route for many who live in northern Bay County and other areas and work on the west end of the beach. Many use it to bypass Panama City Beach Parkway traffic especially during heavy tourist season.
The project includes the widening and realigning of about six miles of Highway 388 from east of Burnt Mill Creek to State Road 77, from two to four lanes. It will include a 12-foot shared-use path along the south side. The intersection of 388 and 77 will be realigned to intersect at County Road 388 north of the existing intersection.
There will be no formal presentation. Maps, drawings and other information will be on display and FDOT representatives will be available to explain proposed improvements, answer questions and receive comments. Right-of-way and construction are not funded in the current FDOT five-year work program.
