Crowd enjoys concert and fireworks
Close to 3,000 people attended the free concert and fireworks display July 5 at Aaron Bessant Park, as part of the Real. Fun. Fourth. festivities. The Tobacco Road Band was the fifth performer in the Summer Concert Series of 10 shows sponsored by the City of Panama City Beach Parks & Recreation Department and the Tourist Development Council. The concert series has been going on for more than 10 years.
The country band out of Tallahassee performed many original songs and encouraged audience participation, calling students near the stage at one point and asking them what they wanted to do in life. A row of golf carts three deep lined the west side of the viewing area, and children played near the center area. Most of the crowd remained on site after the show to enjoy a fireworks display.
"We've been real pleased with the attendance at the Summer Concert Series so far," said Parks & Recreation Director Jim Ponek. "We have brought in a wide variety of music - something for everyone - and the staff work real hard to make sure everything goes well. This is a great event for our residents and visitors."
Real. Fun. Fourth. festivities conclude tonight, with a July 6 fireworks display at Boardwalk Beach Resort. Next week's band for the Summer Concert Series is Reasonable Doubt, a classic rock band from right here in Panama City Beach. All concerts are 7-9 p.m. on Thursdays through Aug. 9 and are BYOB. Food is sold on site. Dogs are also welcome!
