 Lifeguard

Summer will be here before you know it and it's a great time to think about that seasonal summer job. And what could be more fun that working outside keeping our visitors and locals safe at the World's Most Beautiful Beaches!

The Beach Safety Division of Panama City Beach Fire Rescue is hiring eight open water lifeguards. The pay is $15 per hour and includes free training and certification, uniforms and rescue gear.

Why work as a summer lifeguard? We've got three good reasons:

  • Get paid to work out and stay in shape.
  • Feel the pride of making a difference.
  • Acquire the knowledge to save lives.

To work as a beach lifeguard you must be at least 18 years of age and able to work at least two days a week. You must be effective and comfortable in rough surf.

Swimming tryouts are currently ongoing Monday through Friday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Aquatic Center at Frank Brown Park. Tryouts end February 28. You must have a tryout before you can participate in the Open Water Training Academy, which is March 16-19 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. As part of the successful completion of the Open Water Lifeguard Course, applicants must pass physical requirements including being able to swim 500 meters in 10 minutes or less and run one mile in beach sand in 12 minutes or less. Applicants must score 80 percent or higher on a written test.
