City Council recognizes Parks & Rec
The Panama City Beach City Council presented a proclamation to the Parks & Recreation Department on Thursday, July 25, acknowledging July as Parks & Recreation Month.
The department, with 37 full-time and 70 part-time and seasonal employees, consists of Frank Brown Park, the Aquatic Center, Aaron Bessant Park, Gayle’s Trails, Russell-Fields City Pier, the PCB Conservation Park, the Lyndell Conference Center and several playgrounds and neighborhood parks. The department maintains more than 200 acres of outdoor recreational areas, including 100 acres of turf and nine ballfields. Parks & Rec provides more than 50 summer camps for our youth and oversees dozens of adult and children’s athletic programs. The department schedules and manages numerous special events each year, including the Summer Concert Series, regional baseball, softball and other sports tournaments, and hosts Gulf Coast Jam, Thunder Beach and many other events which draw thousands of visitors to the beach.
