Portion of Pier Park Drive closed to through traffic through Easter
As a safety measure, the Panama City Beach City Council unanimously approved a resolution Thursday to temporarily close part of South Pier Park Drive to vehicular traffic. The closure began at midnight March 21 and runs through 12:01 a.m. Monday, April 22 (Easter weekend) and is from Front Beach Road by Russell-Fields Pier to L.C. Hilton Jr. Drive at the roundabout by the movie theater.
Heavy spring traffic in the area bottlenecks the main roadway into Pier Park and representatives from several businesses in that front area had requested the closure according to Pier Park General Manager Chris Tilley.
There was a short-term temporary closure of this section of road last year and the road is often closed for special events.
Officials noted Pier Park is a huge draw for our 17 million visitors as well as locals. The road closure creates a safer environment for shoppers.
