Bay County Solid Waste has made free, untreated mulch available to the public for pick up at four county parks:

  • Under the Oaks Park – 5843 E. U.S. 98, Panama City
  • H.G. Harder’s Park – 8110 John Pitts Rd., Panama City
  • Chapman Park – 2526 Rollins Ave., Bayou George
  • Laird Park – 6310 Laird Park Rd., Panama City

The mulch piles are located at each park, and the public is invited to load and haul off as much as they need. The material is created from storm debris being delivered to any of the county’s eight debris management sites, where it is being mulched to reduce its volume.

Bay County Solid Waste Superintendent Glenn Ogborn cautioned that the material is not suitable for all purposes, and users should be mindful that it has not been treated.

“This is untreated material,” Bay County Solid Waste Superintendent Glenn Ogborn said. “It doesn’t have anything in it to prohibit decay and termites or other critters from eating it.”

As of close of business Tuesday, Dec. 18, Bay County debris haulers had removed 4.47 million cubic yards of debris from the county right of way. Debris hauling operations will be temporarily suspended for the Christmas holidays from Dec. 23 through Dec. 27, as most of the contractors live out of town. Operations will resume Dec. 28 and will return full throttle by Jan. 2.
