The City of Panama City Beach is currently accepting applications for one Building Inspector-Building & Planning Department. Please review the qualifications located in the full job description included in the application packet. Applicants must possess a valid Florida driver’s license and have a driving record that is acceptable to the City’s insurance program. All positions are required to take the Civil Service general competency examination, with several positions requiring more than one examination.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or any equivalent vocational program and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in any one of the following: architecture, engineering, or construction inspection.
Must be State certified pursuant to F.S. 468 as a Building Code Inspector. The ability to obtain certification may be considered upon determination by the City that the applicant possesses the qualifications for examination as stated in Section 468.609(2), F.S. No more than thirty (30) days from the date of hire, the applicant must file the appropriate application to take the certification examination. Such certification must be obtained within six (6) months of the date of hire.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Proficient knowledge of building construction materials, practices and methods of design; ability to detect structural and other faults and to recommend their correction; working knowledge of applicable Building Codes; good judgement; good physical condition.
APPLICATIONS: Civil Service Office is in the City Hall Annex, Room 214, 110 South Arnold Road, Panama City Beach. The hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 8am–4pm with Civil Service usually closing
1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. for lunch. Applications, which must be completed for an interview, are available through our website www.pcbgov.com, and can be downloaded. If Civil Service is unavailable, applications may be left in the drop box on the Civil Service office door or picked up with the assistance of the receptionist desk. Exams, which must be completed for an interview. are conducted in the City Hall Annex, Room 214, 110 South Arnold Road, Panama City Beach.
