The City of Panama City Beach is currently accepting applications for one Police Captain for the Panama City Beach Police Department. Please review the full job description included in the application packet for qualification. Applicant must possess a valid Florida driver’s license - driving record must be acceptable to the City insurance program. Applicants will be administered the general competency Civil Service examination; this exam is taken at City Hall.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university in Law Enforcement or a related field and ten (10) years of continuous police experience, one (1) of which is at the level of Lieutenant with the Beach Police; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Certification as a Florida State Police Officer under the Florida Police Standards and Training requirements.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must submit to pre-employment drug screening and complete pre-employment background investigation and pass physical abilities assessment. Applicants are required to provide proof of current physical (within six months) with application.

This position requires organizational and management skills. Must have proficient working knowledge of computers; database software; Internet software; and Word Processing software; thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of modern police administration and police methods; federal, state and local laws and ordinances which are enforced by the municipal police department. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, subordinates, citizens, civic groups, and other law enforcement, state and federal agencies. Considerable knowledge of the scientific methods of crime detection and criminal identification; types and uses of firearms, communications and automotive equipment used in modern police work. Knowledge of the use of two-way radio systems and standard office equipment.
Must be able to perform illustrative duties and essential eligibility tasks in a manner which is not a direct threat or significant risk to the health or safety of others that cannot be eliminated by a modification of policies, practices, or procedures of the Panama City Beach Police Department or by the provision of auxiliary aids. "Direct threat" shall be determined pursuant to 28 CFR, Section 36.208.

Civil Service Office is in the City Hall Annex, Room 214, 110 South Arnold Road, Panama City Beach. The hours of operation are Monday – Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m.– 4 p.m. with the Civil Service usually closing between the hours of 1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. for lunch. If Civil Service is unavailable, applications may be left in the drop box on the Civil Service office door. You will be contacted to schedule any necessary testing.
